About this video

If the bank terminates your account – how dependent are we still on the financial system?

Every person their own bank? Paths to financial self-determination

Main text for the broadcast entry

More and more often, private individuals, associations, companies, and also alternative media report on terminated or restricted bank accounts. But what actually happens when access to one’s own account is suddenly no longer a given?

In this OKiTALK broadcast, Klaus Glatzel wants to explore the question of how dependent we have become on banks and central payment structures today – and what options people have to strengthen their financial self-determination and security.

This is not only about criticism of the existing banking system but primarily about practical solutions and alternatives.

What does so-called de-risking mean? What rights do private individuals, associations, and companies have in the event of account termination? How sensible are multiple independent accounts and payment methods? What role can cash and new digital possibilities play? And how can one prepare before an account is suddenly blocked or terminated?

A central thought of the broadcast is:

“Every person should be their own bank.”

This does not mean that we can abolish all banks overnight. Rather, it is about regaining responsibility for one’s own money and not being completely dependent on a single financial institution or payment system.

Klaus Glatzel wants to present a practical strategy and develop a 10-point emergency plan for account termination or account blocking together with the viewers.

The broadcast aims to inform, gather experiences, and make concrete courses of action visible.

Have you experienced an account termination or account blocking yourself?

A guest from the fields of banking law, finance, or alternative payment systems may also join.
