Today we come to the dialogical determination of being human, to its expression in the external world, and to the orientation towards fellow humans and the Divine.
This together, the being-for-itself as well as the “being-with-the-other,” determines the human expression on the planet Earth. Being human is thus not only defined by the relation to oneself, by self-knowledge and the awareness of one’s own self, but also in relation to fellow humans, the Divine, the Cosmic, nature, and the environment.
According to Romano Guardini, a person is defined as such when human consciousness is aware of its substantiality and from this overall situation can “encounter a You as an I, be called by it, and enter into that relationship which expresses itself in the moral values of fidelity and love.”
