We are currently very intensively engaged with the question of what it actually means when people in a cultural circle assume that life is about achieving certain states (kingdom of heaven, paradise, cruise, vacation, happiness, wealth, etc.).
Such a thing does not exist in a constantly changing world, and is therefore a priori doomed to fail. Much more favorable would be the conscious pursuit of development, expansion of horizons, integration of new experiences, etc., because such a process orientation would correspond much better to the course of the world… And this even exists in some cultures (“The journey is the goal”). Apparently, however, it does not fit so well into a consumption society oriented towards economic growth, which places the pursuit of “happiness” at the center of human endeavors. Gerald Hüther
