Myth/Guru in Yoga and Enlightenment
Is it not often the case in yoga that we yogis seek enlightenment and follow a guru appointed by humanity, and when we feel that this guru no longer leads us to enlightenment, we follow the next one? But where does this path lead us?
To explain where the concept of the guru has developed from, literally translated, guru means “THE LIGHT THAT BRINGS INTO THE DARK.”
GU = for darkness and RU = for extinguisher of darkness.
Yoga is a philosophy that consists not only of asanas (I would also like to talk about this topic), it is 3500 years old, and the students were instructed in this teaching by their masters/teachers/gurus. I would like to call them pathfinders.
Yoga was not accessible to everyone; for these sacred teachings, an initiation was performed by Rishis-sages. These teachings were only passed down orally in the sacred language Gurmukhi.
Many yogis are still regarded as gurus today.
To name a few: Ananda, Shivananda, Vishnudevananda, Osho, Anandamayi Ma, and many more.
They all walked their yoga path and were each enlightened in their own time, some faster, some later. I too have been asked by one of my friends and also by students: “Would you like to be my GURU?”
My answer: “A clear NO.”

I do not see myself as a guru and yoga teacher, but as a pathfinder.
