the backgrounds, traditions, and rituals of this seasonal festival. The program is hosted by Karin Neumeyer from LIVING EARTH.
On September 22, we have one of the four important solar festivals
in the wheel of the year, namely Mabon, the autumn equinox.
At this point in the wheel of the year, we find ourselves in perfect balance of day and night, just as at Ostara (https://deref-gmx.net/mail/client/0o8GQEuaX5k/dereferrer/?redirectUrl=https%3A%2F%2F49k86.r.sp1-brevo.net%2Fmk%2Fcl%2Ff%2Fsh%2F6rqJfgq8dINmODiGCUcWt446M2E%2FrWJ6_r681jns&lm), but now the days are getting shorter, the dark time is approaching. It becomes noticeably cooler, the nights grow longer, the leaves change color, and the life forces retreat. It is a time of thanks and balance.
For our ancestors, autumn was a time of harvest. Depending on the weather and the blessing of the sacred Mother Earth, numerous ceremonies and rituals developed for the harvest blessing. The most important meaning of Mabon is that of a harvest festival. Mabon marks the midpoint of the harvest season. It is the second of three harvest festivals in the wheel of the year. The harvest begins at Lugnasad and ends with Samhain.
This traditional solar festival celebrated in the wheel of the year honors the grain, the fruit, the crops, grapes, and wine and is a feast of enjoyment, celebrating the abundance and harvest blessing of autumn. Mother Earth shows us at Mabon how from one seed thousands have emerged.
At Mabon, we stand at a threshold. Summer is coming to an end, and the dark season is at the door. We can look in both directions, back to summer and towards the cold time ahead of us. Each of us knows the feeling of standing at a threshold or at a crossroads and taking the first step into the unknown, which still lies in darkness, in the hidden.
For many people, this is associated with fear. Fear of the cold and dark time, fear of loss, fear of pain, fear of one’s own deep feelings, fear of the shadows, fear of the unknown.
When looking at summer, there is no trace of fear. What could happen to one in summer? One crosses the threshold into summer with a light foot. It is quite different with the threshold in autumn. In autumn, when one looks towards winter, there is a feeling of insecurity, a heaviness, and hesitation. Thoughts often arise that much could happen during this time. There is a deeply rooted respect that one has for this cold and dark time.
Together with our seasonal festival expert MANUELA PANTALEO https://livingearth.one/profil/1684524377691×819752547845157000 we have also designed a wonderful course on the SEASONAL FESTIVALS. In this course, you will find even more background knowledge from Manuela, astrological insights into the time qualities of the festivals from Karin, specially created yoga flows from Lena, and breathing exercises from Tatjana.
