Today we travel to India, into the world of Ayurveda.
Ayurveda means 'knowledge of life' – and in this millennia-old healing art, the morning routine plays a crucial role.
It is small, simple actions that cleanse, refresh, and bring body, mind, and soul into balance. And surprisingly many of them are still relevant today.”
“Imagine the morning breaks. Even before the sun rises, an Indian village awakens. People go to the well, fetch water, light small oil lamps.
In this quiet hour, the Ayurvedic morning routine begins.
It is not a luxury, but a lived tradition. A ritual that allows the day to start pure and clear.”
“The first step is tongue scraping. With a small metal spatula, the tongue is cleaned of coatings. This is not only hygienic but also frees the breath and stimulates metabolism.
Then comes oil pulling. A spoonful of sesame or coconut oil is swished back and forth in the mouth for minutes. This ritual is said to bind toxins, strengthen the mucous membranes, and even protect teeth and gums.
Another step is washing the face with cold water, sometimes also with rose water – refreshing, invigorating, like a small fountain of youth in the morning.
And then comes self-massage, called Abhyanga. The body is rubbed with warm oil, from head to toe. The oil nourishes the skin, calms the nervous system, and makes the body supple.
To conclude, there are often breathing exercises or short meditations. Thus, the day begins in calmness, clarity, and with a feeling of inner balance.”
“When we transfer this to our lives, we realize: Many of these rituals are just as valuable today.
Tongue scraping has long arrived in Western drugstores. Oil pulling is recommended in naturopathic practices. Self-massage with warm oil is not only beneficial but also a form of loving self-care.
And perhaps it is this very thought that does us good today: not starting the day with haste and smartphone, but with a few minutes that belong only to ourselves. Small rituals that cleanse our inner self and at the same time strengthen our presence.”
“What fascinates me about the Ayurvedic morning routine is how much it connects: cleansing, care, mindfulness. It is not just body care – it is an act of self-respect.
And perhaps therein lies a key to youthfulness: not in the search for the next quick trick, but in the consistency of small, loving actions, day by day.
Youth is not a coincidence. It arises when we meet ourselves in the morning with clarity and dignity.”
