About this video
Learn together with our seasonal festival – experts Christian Zwenig the backgrounds, traditions, and rituals of this seasonal festival. The program is hosted by Karin Neumeyer from LIVING EARTH.
We have on December 21, 2026, the winter solstice. Among the ancient pre-Christian peoples, this was a very important solar festival, where the old cycle comes to an end and at the same time a new cycle begins.
The resurrection of light was celebrated, the rebirth of the sun, as from this point on the days become longer again. It is the festival Yule, or also called Jul.
Hjul means in the Scandinavian countries (Denmark, Norway, Sweden) as much as wheel. This refers to the wheel of the year, or among the Celts the cycle of the year, which ends at the winter solstice and at the same time begins anew. The central themes are therefore death and rebirth.
Sun turns, old ends.
