Hello, I am Marion Liz, and here I tell you inspiring stories from the world of beauty and no-aging – stories that show how diverse the paths to youthfulness and vitality can be.
Today we travel to Japan, more precisely to a small group of islands in the south: to Okinawa.
This place is considered one of the so-called Blue Zones – regions in the world where people live particularly long, often over a hundred years. But it is not just the age that impresses – it is the vitality with which the people there enjoy their lives.
Setting the scene
“Imagine a warm wind blowing over the island. A group of older women sits together on small stools in front of their houses, laughing, chatting, and crocheting. They are over ninety – some over a hundred – and yet they appear lively, clear, cheerful.
In Okinawa, it is not unusual to meet centenarians. What seems almost like a miracle to us is part of everyday life there. The question is: What do they do differently?”
The secrets of the Okinawans
“Research has found many answers, and they all interconnect.
The first is nutrition. In Okinawa, the traditional diet is light and plant-based. Lots of vegetables, seaweed, sweet potatoes, tofu – and only small amounts of meat or fish. Calorie-reduced, but nutrient-rich.
The second is movement. The people there do not engage in competitive sports, but they are constantly moving in their daily lives: gardening, walking, sitting on the floor and getting up again. Their bodies remain supple through natural movement.
The third – and perhaps most important – is community. In Okinawa, there is a concept called Moai: close, lifelong friendship groups that care for one another. No one is alone; everyone is included. This social warmth acts like a fountain of youth.
And finally, there is Ikigai – the idea that every person has a purpose in life. A reason to get up in the morning. Even at ninety or a hundred years old, many still tend gardens, care for grandchildren, cook, or dance. They have a task that fulfills their hearts.”
The significance for us today
“When we transfer this to our Western world, it is almost like a mirror. We often rush, eat too richly, sit too much, and feel lonely, even though we are constantly online.
From Okinawa, we can learn that youthfulness is not just a matter of cosmetics. It arises when body, mind, and soul live in harmony.
Light, nutrient-rich nutrition.
Natural movement.
Connection with others.
And a purpose in life that carries us.
It is fascinating: While we search for anti-aging agents in our laboratories, the people in Okinawa live the simplest yet most effective recipes – every day.”
Personal touch
“What touches me about Okinawa is that beauty is not staged there. It arises quite naturally, through life itself. A smile, a deep wrinkle that tells of much laughter – all of this belongs to the beauty of these people.
And perhaps that is their greatest secret: They live with ease. They do not stress themselves to look young. And it is precisely through this that they preserve their youth.”
Outro with offer transition
“And perhaps you felt while listening: These principles are actually quite simple. Small steps, small rituals – but when we live them regularly, they change everything.
This is exactly where my 8-week challenge ‘In 8 weeks visibly more beautiful’ comes in. There, I will accompany you for eight weeks with impulses that work immediately: exercises, inspirations, small changes that add up – until you see the difference in the mirror.
